🎏 The koi that inspired our logo: 3 fresh diagrams + a special offer

Origami Unfold
Hi Reader,
Two months ago, a reader reached out asking about the koi origami featured on our homepage.
The truth is, that image had been on Origami.me since before we took over, and since we don’t visit our own homepage often, we hadn’t given it much thought. When Carla asked about it, I realized I had no idea who the designer of that beautiful koi was.
A few weeks later, while reaching out to Riccardo Foschi to ask his permission to share one of his photos on our Facebook page, he mentioned that he liked how we had drawn inspiration from his koi for our logo. At first, I was confused — until it clicked. The designer we had hired for our logo had taken inspiration from the koi on the homepage.
Flo and I were a bit embarrassed, since it’s very important to us to always ask permission before using an artist’s work. Fortunately, Riccardo was incredibly kind: not only did he reassure us about the logo, but he also agreed to let us share his koi tutorial on Origami.me.
Riccardo is a wonderfully talented artist with a very recognizable style. I encourage you to visit his Instagram and YouTube channel to discover more of his work.
In today’s newsletter, you’ll find his koi tutorial along with two other new diagrams, a discount for the Origami World Marathon, a new post by Madonna Yoder, some origami inspiration, and a behind-the-scenes look at our upcoming site redesign. – Saki

🌀 Origami Tessellations: Guide to Difficulty Levels
Ever wondered how to tell if a tessellation is beginner-friendly or seriously advanced? Madonna Yoder wrote a special post for our readers, breaking down the levels of tessellation difficulty and how to approach them.
And here’s a sneak peek: Madonna will also be joining us as a guest artist in January’s membership, where she’ll teach an initiation to origami tessellations.
For folders in Europe, here’s a wonderful opportunity to meet, learn, and fold together in person. The 18th Lyon Origami Convention will bring the community together for three days of workshops, lectures, and informal folding sessions.
This year’s invited masters include Zhang Ziliang (China), Katsuzaki Yuta (Japan), Daniel Chang (Germany), Peter Buchan-Symons (UK), and Eliot (France), plus many other talented artists and participants.
It’s the perfect chance to connect with other folders, learn new techniques, and spend a weekend immersed in origami.
We’re excited to share that our site redesign is officially underway! The new version will offer a smoother, more intuitive navigation experience, making it easier to explore tutorials, artists, and inspiration.
If all goes as planned, the redesign should go live next month. We can’t wait for you to see it.
Next month marks a new chapter with our membership. It’s the beginning of something we’ve been carefully shaping for months, and we truly hope to see you there.
